Online Energizer Sebastiaan Nieuwland teaches you the most important quality a human being can have. Responding appropriately to the challenges that life has in store for us.
The most important tool Sebastiaan gives his teams is the Respond technique. His thesis: using the right language is crucial for a successful life. After this Online Energizer, you will have psychological tools to take advantage of, both at home and in the work environment.
Using recognizable examples and valuable quotes, personal coach Sebastiaan Nieuwland takes you on a humorous journey into yourself, and the people around you. Life can actually be so simple! Sometimes even by changing just one word in your vocabulary you manage to positively change your outlook on – and place in the world.
We all live in a world full of language. Language continuously triggers responses, in yourself, and in your environment. For that reason, well-considered use of language, certain word choices and confident intonation can be particularly important tools to achieve your goals. In every situation!
Everything starts with yourself, because how you talk affects how you think, and how you think, in turn, affects how you feel, and how you feel, determines what you do. And how! Thus the circle keeps turning. A statement evokes a certain thought, a feeling, a certain behavior, and experience shows that people end up in a negative spiral before they realize it themselves.
Simply put: You shouldn’t believe everything you think… But how do you do that?
You will learn that from Sebastiaan Nieuwland in this Online Energizer workshop of 45 minutes to an hour.
As an NLP coach and Transactional Analysis expert, Sebastiaan has years of experience in guiding people to a more beautiful life, where ambiguities belong to a shadowy past. He makes together with you your present concrete. Your goals tangible. The main tool for this is the Respond technique.
React vs. Respond
To react is reacting from triggers, unconsciously (inter)acting from unwarranted feelings that do not fit the situation. At that moment you react purely from a (primal) feeling that is triggered – and this reaction has nothing to do with the situation. Your reaction comes up naturally, without you exercising control over it. A statement evokes anger, and anger negative self-thoughts. That’s what Sebastian is referring to with to react.
Respond could literally be translated the same in Dutch, but the nuance is completely different. To respond means that you react to the other person in the here and now and to the situation as it really is. No longer purely from a feeling that occurs, but fully aware of what is actually really being said in this situation. This is called to respond.
Respond versus react, consists of the difference between thinking you “know” what the other person means – and then reacting to that like an angry child. On the other hand, there is actually listening. Being open to what is really being said. Trying to understand. And if you can’t, just ask honestly: “How do you mean?” And not start thinking up explanations yourself.
Responding from the position of the Respondent, is a technique that can be learned very well. And that is what you will do in this Online Energizer together with your colleagues.
